Cookie Policy

Effective version: 2026-06-23

This document describes how StudyBuddyAI actually operates today and is provided as-is by StudyBuddyAI's operator, a private individual. It is not legal advice and is not a substitute for advice from a qualified lawyer. Any items still shown in [BRACKETS] are details we are finalising.

This Cookie Policy explains how StudyBuddyAI uses cookies and similar technologies, why we use them, and the choices you have. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

In short: we use a small number of cookies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and (only if you opt in) measure aggregate usage. We do not run advertising, and we do not use cross-site or behavioural tracking.

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser when you visit. They let a site remember things between page loads and visits — for example, that you are signed in or which language you prefer.

We also use closely related technologies, such as browser local storage and signed tokens, for the same purposes. In this policy we refer to all of these simply as "cookies".

  • First-party cookies are set by StudyBuddyAI itself.
  • Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser or sign out; persistent cookies stay until they expire or you clear them.

2. Why we use cookies

We use cookies only for purposes that help the service work and respect your privacy:

  • Strictly necessary — to authenticate parents and child study sessions, keep you signed in securely, remember the interface language you choose, and store your cookie-consent choices. These are always on because the service relies on them or because they simply remember a choice you actively made.
  • Analytics — if (and only if) you opt in, to understand aggregate, non-identifying usage so we can improve the product. None run by default.

We do not use cookies for advertising, for building advertising profiles, or for tracking you across other websites or apps.

3. The cookies we use

The table below lists the cookies StudyBuddyAI may set, grouped by category. Strictly necessary cookies are first-party. Analytics cookies are set only if you have opted in via the consent banner and only if an analytics provider is enabled — none are set today by default.

4. Your choices and managing consent

Cookie-consent banner

When you first visit, we show a cookie-consent banner so you can accept or reject analytics cookies before they are set. Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent and cannot be turned off, because the service relies on them (or simply remember a preference you actively chose, such as your language).

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time — re-open the cookie banner from the link in the site footer, or clear the consent cookie in your browser to be asked again. Your choices are stored in the sb_cookie_consent cookie so we can honour them on future visits.

Browser controls

Most browsers let you view, block, and delete cookies through their settings. Blocking all cookies — including strictly necessary ones — will likely break core features such as signing in and keeping a study session active.

Rejecting analytics cookies will not break core features: you can still sign in, run study and homework sessions, and use the parent dashboard.

Do Not Track

Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. There is no common industry standard for how sites should respond to DNT. Because we do not perform cross-site tracking and do not load analytics without your opt-in, your default experience already reflects this preference. We will continue to honour your consent choices regardless of any DNT signal.

5. Analytics

We want to keep improving StudyBuddyAI, which means occasionally measuring how the product is used. We do this in a privacy-respecting way.

  • Analytics run only if you opt in through the consent banner.
  • By default no analytics provider is loaded, and no analytics cookies are set.
  • If analytics are later enabled and you have consented, we use them to measure aggregate, non-identifying usage (such as which features are used) — not to identify or profile individuals.
  • We do not use analytics for advertising or to track you across other sites.

If we ever enable a specific analytics provider, we will update the table above and, where required, ask for your consent again.

6. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time — for example, if we add or remove a cookie or enable a new category. When we make material changes, we will update the effective version shown at the top and, where appropriate, ask for your consent again through the banner.
