DMCA / Copyright Takedown Policy
Effective version: 2026-06-23
StudyBuddyAI respects the intellectual property rights of others and asks everyone who uses our service to do the same. This policy explains how to notify us about content you believe infringes your copyright, how we respond, and how someone affected by a removal can respond in turn.
StudyBuddyAI is a private study and homework-help service. Parents and children enter text — such as homework problems, questions, and notes — and receive AI responses. We do not host a public library, feed, or marketplace, and there is no way to publish content to other users or to the public: a family's content stays private to that family. We still provide the takedown path below for any allegedly infringing material we host or process.
1. Our copyright policy
StudyBuddyAI responds to notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (the "DMCA", 17 U.S.C. § 512). If we receive a notice that substantially meets the legal requirements, we will act expeditiously to remove or disable access to the material identified in it.
Because content entered into the service is private to a single family rather than published to others, most material we process is the user's own work or schoolwork. Even so, if material we host or process is alleged to infringe a copyright, the procedures in this policy apply.
We also reserve the right, in appropriate circumstances and at our discretion, to limit, suspend, or terminate the accounts of users who are repeat infringers, as described below.
2. Reporting alleged infringement (DMCA notice)
If you are a copyright owner, or are authorised to act on behalf of one, and you believe that material we host or process infringes your copyright, you may send us a written notification of claimed infringement (a "Notice").
To be effective under the DMCA, your Notice must include substantially all of the following:
- Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed (or, if multiple works are covered by a single Notice, a representative list of those works).
- Identification of the material you claim is infringing and that you want removed or disabled, with enough information to allow us to locate it (for example, the account, the specific session or message, and any other detail that identifies where the material is).
- Your contact information so we can reach you — your full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information in your Notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or are authorised to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
If your Notice does not substantially comply with these requirements, it may not be valid under the DMCA, and we may be unable to act on it.
3. Where to send a notice
Send your Notice to our Copyright Agent:
- Copyright Agent: Raz Cohen
- Email: support@getstudybuddyai.com (we accept copyright notices and counter-notices by email)
To help us route your Notice promptly, please include "DMCA Notice" in the subject line. This contact is for copyright matters only; for other questions, use the general contact details at the end of this policy.
4. Counter-notification
If your material was removed or disabled because of a DMCA Notice and you believe the removal was a mistake or the material was misidentified, you may send us a written counter-notification (a "Counter-Notice").
To be effective under the DMCA, your Counter-Notice must include substantially all of the following:
- Identification of the material that was removed or disabled and the location at which it appeared before it was removed or access to it was disabled.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief that the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification of the material to be removed or disabled.
- Your name, address, and telephone number, together with a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the U.S. federal district court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or, if your address is outside the United States, for any judicial district in which we may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who filed the original Notice or that person's agent.
- Your physical or electronic signature.
Send your Counter-Notice to our Copyright Agent using the contact details in Section 3, with "DMCA Counter-Notice" in the subject line.
5. What happens after a counter-notice
When we receive a valid Counter-Notice, we will promptly forward a copy to the person who submitted the original Notice and let them know that we may restore the removed material in 10 to 14 business days.
Unless the original complainant notifies us within that period that they have filed a court action seeking to restrain you from engaging in the allegedly infringing activity, we may restore the removed material, at our discretion.
Because a Counter-Notice may lead to legal proceedings between you and the complaining party, you should consider seeking legal advice before submitting one.
6. Repeat infringers
StudyBuddyAI has adopted a policy of terminating, in appropriate circumstances and at our discretion, the accounts of users who are determined to be repeat infringers of copyright.
We may also take this and other action — including removing material, suspending features, or limiting access — where we believe it is warranted, whether or not there is a repeated pattern of infringement.
7. Misrepresentations
Please do not make false or abusive claims. Under Section 512(f) of the DMCA, any person who knowingly materially misrepresents either that material is infringing, or that material was removed or disabled by mistake or misidentification, may be liable for damages — including costs and attorneys' fees — incurred by the alleged infringer, by any copyright owner or its authorised licensee, or by us.
Submit a Notice or Counter-Notice only if you genuinely believe, in good faith, that you have the right to do so.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the effective version shown at the top of this page.
