Refund and Subscription Terms
Effective version: 2026-06-23
StudyBuddyAI offers paid subscription plans that give your family access to the tutoring service. This policy explains how billing works, how your subscription renews automatically, how to cancel, and when refunds are available.
Please read the section on automatic renewal carefully: paid plans renew on their own and charge your payment method until you cancel.
This policy works together with our Terms of Service. If there is any conflict about billing, the billing terms set out here apply.
1. Overview & merchant of record
Payments for StudyBuddyAI are processed by Paddle.com, which acts as our Merchant of Record (MoR). This means that when you buy a subscription, Paddle is the seller of record for that transaction.
As Merchant of Record, Paddle:
- Processes your payment and handles your payment card or other payment details — we do not receive or store your full card number.
- Calculates and charges any applicable sales tax, VAT, or GST based on your location.
- Issues your invoice or receipt for each charge.
- Is the party shown as the seller on your card or bank statement (the charge may appear under Paddle's name).
We set the plans, prices, and what each plan includes, and we manage your account and access to the service. Paddle handles the payment, tax, and billing mechanics. Your use of Paddle's checkout is also governed by Paddle's own buyer terms and privacy policy.
2. Subscription plans & billing
Paid plans are sold as recurring subscriptions. When you subscribe, you choose a plan and a billing period (for example, monthly or annual), and you agree to pay the price shown at checkout for that period.
- Your subscription begins when your first payment is successfully processed.
- The price you pay, your billing period, the currency, and any applicable tax are shown to you at checkout before you confirm.
- Currency, sales tax, and VAT/GST are determined and collected by Paddle based on your location at the time of purchase.
- Each receipt or invoice is provided by Paddle and is available through your Paddle billing records.
AI usage and credits
Some plans or features may use AI credits or have usage limits. Where that applies, the limits and what happens when you reach them are described in the app or at checkout. Your subscription fee is charged on the recurring schedule below regardless of how much you use the service in a given period, unless we tell you otherwise at purchase.
3. Automatic renewal
Your subscription is set to renew automatically. Please read the following so you know exactly what to expect:
- Your subscription continues and renews automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel.
- At each renewal, Paddle will automatically charge the payment method you have on file.
- You will be charged for the next period at the then-current price for your plan and billing cycle (we will give you notice in advance of any price change, as described below).
- Renewal happens without any further action by you — you do not need to do anything to keep your subscription active.
- Auto-renewal continues until you cancel. There is no fixed end date unless you choose one, you cancel, or we end your subscription as allowed by these terms — for example, if you do not accept a material price increase (see 'Price changes' below).
If you do not want your subscription to renew, you must cancel before the end of your current billing period (see 'How to cancel' below).
Where required by law (including the California Automatic Renewal Law and similar consumer-protection rules), we present this auto-renewal disclosure to you before you subscribe, send any acknowledgements required, and provide an easy way to cancel online at any time.
4. How to cancel
You can cancel your subscription at any time. There are two ways to do it:
- From your account settings in the app, on the billing or subscription page.
- Through the Paddle billing portal, using the link in your purchase receipt or any of Paddle's billing emails.
If you have trouble cancelling, contact us at support@getstudybuddyai.com and we will help.
What happens when you cancel
- Cancellation stops future renewals — you will not be charged again after you cancel.
- Your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for. You keep your plan's features until that date.
- After the paid period ends, your subscription will not renew, and your access reverts to whatever free or limited tier is available (if any).
- Cancelling on its own does not delete your account or your family's data. To delete data, see our Privacy Policy.
Unless this policy or the law says otherwise, cancelling part-way through a billing period does not by itself entitle you to a refund of that period — see 'Refunds' below.
5. Price changes
We may change our subscription prices or what a plan includes from time to time.
- Any price change applies to future billing periods, not periods you have already paid for.
- We will give you reasonable advance notice of a price increase that affects your renewal, by email and/or in the app, before it takes effect.
- Where the law requires it, a material price increase will not take effect until you have been notified and, where required, have agreed to continue.
- If you do not want to pay the new price, you can cancel before your next renewal and your subscription will end at the end of your current paid period.
- If you do not accept a material price increase that requires your agreement, and you do not cancel, we may end your subscription at the end of your current paid period rather than keep it going at the previous price. We will not charge you the new price without your agreement, and you will keep your plan's features until the end of the period you have already paid for.
6. Refunds
We want you to be happy with the service. Our standard refund stance is set out below; statutory rights (including the EU/UK right of withdrawal in the next section) always apply on top of this and are not limited by it.
- Within the refund window (14 days) after a charge, you may request a refund of that charge.
- Outside the refund window, charges are generally non-refundable, and cancelling stops future renewals but does not refund the current period, except where required by law or where we choose to make an exception.
- We do not provide pro-rated refunds for unused time in a billing period unless required by law.
- We may decline refunds in cases of suspected fraud, abuse, or breach of our Terms.
How to request a refund
To request a refund, email us at support@getstudybuddyai.com with the email address used for the purchase and the date of the charge, or contact Paddle through the billing details on your receipt.
Because Paddle is the Merchant of Record, approved refunds are processed by Paddle back to your original payment method. The time it takes for the refund to appear depends on your bank or card issuer.
Our standard refund window runs for 14 days from the date of each charge. Where the law where you live, or Paddle's own buyer terms, give you a longer or non-waivable right, that greater right applies.
7. EU/UK right of withdrawal (cooling-off period)
If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have a statutory right to withdraw from a distance contract (such as an online subscription) within 14 days, without giving a reason. This is in addition to our standard refund stance above.
Digital content and immediate access
Because StudyBuddyAI is a digital service that you can start using immediately, the cooling-off period can be affected by how you start using it:
- If you ask us to begin providing the service during the 14-day cooling-off period and acknowledge that you may lose your right of withdrawal once the service is fully performed, your withdrawal right may be lost or limited where the law allows.
- If you start using the service during the cooling-off period but then withdraw before it is fully performed, you may be charged for the portion of the service already provided.
- For digital content supplied other than on a tangible medium (for example, content you download or stream): if you give your prior express consent for supply to begin during the cooling-off period and acknowledge that you thereby lose your right of withdrawal, that right is lost once supply begins — it is not pro-rated.
- If you have not started using the service, you can withdraw within 14 days for a full refund.
How to exercise it
To exercise your right of withdrawal, send us a clear statement of your decision to withdraw at support@getstudybuddyai.com (or contact Paddle through your receipt) within 14 days of your purchase. We and Paddle will handle the cancellation and any refund due.
8. Failed payments & lapse
If a renewal payment fails (for example, an expired or declined card), Paddle may try to charge your payment method again over a short period.
- Please keep your payment details up to date in the Paddle billing portal to avoid interruption.
- If payment cannot be collected, your paid features may be paused or your subscription may lapse to a free or limited tier (if any).
- Your account and data are not deleted just because a payment fails; you can resubscribe to restore paid access.
9. Free trials
We do not currently offer a free trial. If we introduce one, we will disclose the trial length, what happens when it ends, and the price you will be charged before you start it, and the terms in this section will apply.
10. Taxes
Applicable sales tax, VAT, or GST is calculated, charged, and remitted by Paddle as Merchant of Record, based on your location at the time of purchase.
The tax shown at checkout and on your receipt is the amount collected. If you are tax-exempt or purchasing for a business, Paddle may let you add a tax/VAT identifier during checkout where supported.
